A Little Anxious

I went to the hematologist this afternoon, and I was a little anxious about the appointment. Sitting in the waiting room filled with obviously very sick patients, mostly cancer patients, ranging from young to old, made me a tiny bit nervous. My "what ifs" had started racing through my mind even though I know I am healthy. Luckily, the doctor I was seeing put my anxiety to rest with his demeanor, his explanation of my blood work, and his thorough exam of me.

My platelet count still reads low (not dangerously low at this point), so I will continue to see him throughout the rest of my pregnancy. As it gets closer to my delivery, my platelets will be monitored, and if I need a boost, then I will be put on a steroid. The worst case scenario is that I wouldn't be able to have an epidural at delivery time. Now, that doesn't make me super happy, but I can live with it. I'm just going to hope that it doesn't come to that. :)

Rite of Passage into Daddyhood

Eric has now forbidden me to shop online for toys that mention, "Some assembly required" without his prior approval because of this:

Poor Eric spent two and a half hours putting together Madeline's kitchen. Of course, I was an exceptional helper, and even though he moaned, "I was not mentally prepared to do this project this evening.", he loved putting his little girl's play kitchen together.
Daddy getting started...
Daddy posing proudly next to his finished project at almost 1 AM the night before he left for a business trip. (We are so lucky this man loves his little girl and his wife a whole bunch!)
The next morning, it took Madeline about .1 seconds to realize the kitchen was sitting there for her to enjoy! She played with it for well over an hour before realizing how hungry for breakfast she really was. She has since played with this kitchen non-stop....well worth every second of that two and a half hours of labor!

Our domestic diva makes eggs and sauce in her kitchen and talks on the phone the entire time.
Madeline's Second Birthday Party

I love that Madeline has a summer birthday because we can have a good 'ol fashioned swim party or backyard BBQ! Since Madeline still has limited friends and limited understanding of her birthday, we decided to throw a two year old celebration complete with a grill out, cupcakes, ice cream, a few gifts, corn hole, and some adult beverages. (My how times have changed when we have a cooler full of Corona, wine, water, and juice boxes!)

Madeline had a wonderful birthday celebration...my parents, my brothers and their families, and some of our closest friends attended our backyard BBQ to honor Madeline's special day. One of Madeline's favorite things to do with other children is play "Ring Around the Rosy" ~ Emily happily obliged the birthday girl.

Madeline wasn't quite sure what to make of all the singing. Notice that she has a purse nearby. I'm serious when I say that this child loves purses!

Madeline's Daddy helped her blow out her candle.
Madeline enjoyed the frosting and sprinkles on her cupcake.
Of course, she had to show off her ability to use a spoon as she wolfed down ice cream with her cupcake.
Madeline received a gracious amount of gifts, and there seemed to be a common theme among them ~ dress up. Our family and friends know our little girl well.
Madeline got into the gift opening once she figured out how it all worked!

Madeline took one look at these dress up shoes and immediately wanted to try them on.

Madeline loved her ironing board.
Madeline knew exactly what to do with her dress up jewels.

Madeline had a wonderful day, and she was one tuckered out little diva at the end of the night.

Madeline is TWO YEARS OLD!

How can it be that our sweet girl is two already? It seems like just yesterday that I was asking the nurse in the labor and delivery room exactly what she meant by "push", and now our little 7 pound baby looks like this:

Madeline keeps me on my toes with her spunky little personality...she's a book lover, a people lover, a fashion diva, an opinionated tot who knows exactly what she wants, a bossy little thing, a rule follower, and a lover of the outdoors. Madeline is definitely a girly girl as I have mentioned in previous updates never leaving home without a purse, a necklace, a bracelet, a baby doll, and a toy of choice. Luckily, she will leave most of her items in the car when we go into stores, the gym, and other places because she seems to understand that she could lose them.
Madeline loves to play dress up, play with her babies, play in her new kitchen, "fix" Mommy's hair & make up, roughhouse with Daddy, and play outside. Of course, a day wouldn't be complete without reading her books and coloring. We've moved all of her toys and most of her books into her big girl room, and she LOVES to play in her new room. Rolling around on the big girl beds, reading books, and playing with her Little People keep her busy in her new room.
Over the last month, Madeline has really seemed to come to understand and respect us as her parents. I can't quite put my finger on what light bulb seems to have gone off, but I feel as though she knows that we love her to pieces, but she's figured out that we mean business when we speak to her firmly, give her "the look", put her in time-out, or give a spank. It seems as though our consistency in discipline has really paid off for us as we've had a few of those really proud parent moments. Of course, things are far from perfect, but the tantrums, obvious testing of rules, and telling us "NO!" have decreased dramatically.
Madeline is still a picky eater, but she's making progress. She's learning that she has to eat some of her sandwich first then chips or that she has to eat a good dinner in order to have a "treat". Her favorite foods fluctuate, but she continues to love milk, yogurt, cheese, applesauce, French fries/any potato product, chicken, mandarin oranges, blueberry waffles, Goldfish, eggs, and toast with cream (cream cheese). Madeline loves to eat a treat ~ Popsicles, ice cream, cookies, chocolate, chips, popcorn, or candies. I am proud of how well she can eat with her fork, spoon, and drink out of a regular cup. She loves to use a napkin at each meal, and she can be quite particular about picking up crumbs around her plate.
Madeline's two year old well visit went well. She received a clean bill of health,"met" all of the developmental markers, and hated every second of the toe prick and shot. She weighs 26 lbs. (42%); is 35 in. tall (80%); and her head measures 48 cm (64%). Madeline chatters NON-STOP! She has an awful lot to say, and I find myself cracking up at her constant commentary and questions. She's really gotten into asking me, "Whatcha doin, Mama?" or asking to go look out the windows to see what's going on outside, "What's dat out there?" One of my favorite moments is at the end of the day, when she tells us about her day. While much of it is still jibber jabber, we can make out most of what she's telling us complete with sound effects and hand gestures.
We love our little Fancy Girl to the moon and back. I'm looking forward to this second year of her life ~ she has so much to look forward to ~ starting school, becoming a big sister, moving to a big girl room, & potty training. Ultimately, I think she will adjust beautifully.
Six Month Check-Up

I had my 24 week doctor appointment, and things seem to be moving along well with our little sweetie. I gained some weight (always makes those pesky doctors happy), passed the Glucose screening, and measured right where I should be measuring. Baby Girl's heart rate was strong, and she's been moving around a lot lately. Unfortunately, my platelet count has continued to drop over the course of this pregnancy, so I am having to see a hematologist next week to check things out. My doctor wants to have all his "ducks in a row" in case my platelet count is super low when I go into labor in December. I'm not terribly worried as I've always had issues with my platelet count, and I've even been to an oncologist during college. So, the bottom line is that my doctor just wants to make sure there is an "action plan" in place for a dangerously low platelet count when the time comes to deliver. Other than that little snafu, all is well with the pregnancy and Baby Girl #2.

Call Me Silly

But how cute is the little girl in the big shoes in Madeline's new age ticker above? I was tickled to find a little figure that depicts our Madeline so well. It's the little things in life that make me smile, I guess.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Madeline!

Today is the big TWO year old birthday, and I would be remiss without a small post to commemorate this special day. I have a "two year old post/update/well visit/birthday party" in the works, but for today, we are just celebrating small. I took Madeline to the gym today, her favorite gym, so that she could see her special friends & caretakers, ride in a cozy coupe, and play to her heart's content while I got my workout. We did a little shopping at Target, and I threw all caution to the wind by allowing the bag of Target popcorn, a juice box, and a snack size bag of Peanut M&M's to be her lunch. Madeline was in heaven, and surprisingly enough, she didn't seem to have a belly ache. Although, she did realize that she was eating "treats" for lunch since she kept shouting out "Treat!" to anyone that would listen as we did our shopping. Now she's napping cozily in her bed. All in all, I think her second birthday has been a pretty good one.

Fripp Island 2010

Our little native got restless on the drive down, so we stopped for a snack --- Peanut M&Ms --- isn't vacay the best? Daddy found $2 in the parking lot.

A little play-do fun before the beach!

We cracked up at how gross Madeline was in this picture --- between the sand, the enormous amount of sunscreen, and the Dorito cheese!

Madeline loved to lean over her pack-n-play and feel the fan on her face!

These girls loved to play with Madeline on the beach. They entertained her for hours. Madeline wandered over to them and joined their fun. Little did we know that they were from Columbia too.

A little crab lesson

Driving the golf cart was super fun!
Coloring supplies travel everywhere!

Words cannot even describe how much this little girl LOVES the beach!

A rare Anne & Eric photo

Seriously, how cute are these two little girls?
